Mass transit

In random neighborhood news...

My original flight to California was scheduled for a Wednesday afternoon.  It was the day of the massive flooding that shut down much of New York's subways, led to many workers walking 50 blocks in the rain to get to work, stuck in traffic on the LIE for 4 hours and stranded some morning show DJs in their studio because the 1st floor of their building was flooded.  For me, I left for the airport extra early and checked my flight status on my phone.  My flight was still good to go so I hopped a subway, transferred and thought I was all clear.  Then at Queens Plaza they kick us off the subway, saying it wasn't going to run anymore because of flooding.  I'd already been on the subway for 45 minutes by now.  The station agent said that to get to JFK I should go BACK to Manhattan and take the A train, which already takes two and a half hours on a good day.  In the rain?  Fuggeddaboutit.

I ended up hauling ass to street level in the terrible humidity and tried to hail a cab.  It would cost me a shitload of money, but I didn't care.  I don't know Queens very well so this was my only alternative to get to JFK.  I meet another girl who's going to JFK, we're able to get a gypsy cab to JFK.  I find out that my flight was canceled while I was on the subway and I re-book for the next morning.  That left me stranded at JFK.  The subways weren't running, a cab would cost $60 and take 2 hours to get to Manhattan...  I found out the Long Island Railroad was running fine, so I hop on it and get to Penn Station.  From there I hop a working subway uptown.  Just my luck, because of the weather it's running local (which means it would take 45 minutes to get to my stop) and I end up on a car that has NO air conditioning.  by the time I got to my apartment my shirt was literally soaked with sweat.

Tough day.

Next morning I get up ass early.  It's 4am; even though my flight is on time (thanks, sher!) and more of the subways are running ok, I'm not going to take any chances.  Another girl gets on the subway with me and she also has luggage.  She lives in the area and it turns out she's going to JFK to catch a flight to Los Angeles.  Her name is Kisha and she's an actress/model whose movie is showing at a festival out there.  I'm totally psyched because the movie stars one of my favorite actors, Jeffrey C. Wright.

So I decided to look her up today and see if she's been in anything I've heard of.  She hasn't done too many big films but she's worked with some notable people (Spike Lee).  But what's REALLY interesting is that she is rumored to have been Kimora Lee Simmons' secret lesbian girlfriend.  Turns out Kisha modeled for BabyPhat, which is run by Kimora...Kisha was in a movie called The Aggressives where she alludes to her romantic relationship with a married model, a relationship that had to end when the tabloids got a hold of it.  Hmmm....

You just never know who you're going to meet on the subway.

Oh, and Meg Ryan came into the office on Friday.  She looks and sounds exactly like she does in the movies, but I didn't get a close look at her lips to see if they look as fake in person as they do in pictures.
